WHERE WE WORK - NEPAL

Pokhara Pastor's Conference
Nepal is a tiny mountain country sandwiched between China and India, well-known for the Himalayas, such as Mt. Everest and the Annapurna Range. Formerly a Hindu kingdom, it now has a parliamentary democracy. Jousting for power between political parties has often meant difficulties in transportation and public services, but the country is finding its way forward. Currently there is freedom of religion for the first time in its existence.

There are now about 1 million Christians in Nepal. This represents a 400% increase in the number of Christians since 1990 when democracy began there.

Vanguard has been working in this field since 2001. We have been doing Pastoral Discipleship Training in five venues in Kathmandu, as well as the city of Pokhara. Many pastors and Bible Students have been trained in Discipleship, and are asking for many other areas of Pastoral Training. Church members have been transformed.

For example, Basurindra Mughar had been dedicated by her parents to be a Buddhist lama. But she came to Christ through an area pastor’s wife, and went through the discipleship training at one of our sessions in Pokhara. Immediately after, God delivered her from satanic bondage, and her entire family have now become Christians, and many more in her church. God is powerfully working in this mountain region, and it has been a joy to have co-labored with Him (2Cor.6:1) and with many churches, schools and mission groups. We look forward to His further work there, and in taking part in it by His grace.
