Vanguard began working in the city of Cusco, the capital of the Inca kings, in 2000. We helped the pastor's association prepare for city-wide evangelistic missions, using 4 evangelists in Cusco and Puerto Maldonado. It was a joy to see God move in helping the pastors work together, and to train 72 pastors and leaders in discipleship. From there, about 60 others were trained in evangelistic counselor immediate follow-up. About 1360 people trusted Christ in the meetings, and the city was permanently impacted by the pastors serving together.
From there, Vanguard sponsored and trained in a series of Pastoral Leadership training seminars over the next 5 years, and did ongoing evangelism and missions training as well. Vanguard has also taught in the local Bible Institute (Horizontes) for over 8 years to prepare missionary church-planting evangelists to take the Good News deep into the Peruvian jungles and remote outposts and villages. The city which was once a mission field is now a mission-sending-agency!
