Tanzania is a combination of former British colonies (Tanganyika and Zanzibar) which forms the largest country by area in East Africa. It has over 38 million people, whose religions are about 1/3 Christian, 1/3 Muslim and 1/3 indigenous religions. Their constitution guarantees religious freedom.
Vanguard's work there began in 2006 in the city of Mbeya, when the Association of Gospel Ministers (AGMI) invited us to train their pastors. God moved in a wonderful way in 2 training weeks, and 98 pastors, leaders and wives were trained. VGN has gone back every year since, training in our Discipleship Process-of-Ministry, as well as teaching Pastoral Studies in one of the area Bible Schools. In 2009, pastors from the U.S. helped train the Tanzanian pastors in Expository Preaching in a seminar that greatly impacted the Tanzanians.
Plans are underway at present to help lead and participate in a city-wide Evangelistic Campaign to help further reach the unreached in Mbeya. Invitations have also come in from Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Kingoma and other areas of the country to provide Pastoral Training Seminars (PTS).
